St. Petri – Old Tingelstad Church
This medieval stone church lies just south of Hadeland Folk Museum. Dating back to the first half of the 13th century, and built from local stone, the church most likely served as a private church for a local manor. Inside the church, only the crucifix and stone altar remain from the medieval period, while the other interior features can be dated to the 16th and 17th centuries. Built in 1579, the pulpit is thought to be Norway’s oldest preserved pulpit. You can also see the painted altarpiece (1699) and a unique large format painting on the north wall, depicting the Danish-Norwegian coat of arms from 1559.
The Sister Churches
The Sister Churches, Nikolaikirken and Mariakirken, are two medieval churches built very close to each other. Dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, these churches are shrouded in legend and mystery. One of the most famous tells of two sisters who built their own churches after a furious quarrel. The Sister Churches are a popular tourist attraction in Hadeland, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful medieval architecture in a serene setting, with fantastic views of the stunning scenery around Granavollen. Guided tours are available.
The Stone House
Believed to have been built in the 13th century, the Stone House at Granavollen is one of Norway’s oldest secular buildings. The house has served different purposes over the centuries, including as a residence and a warehouse. Known for its robust medieval architecture, the Stone House is an important local monument. The house is open to the public from Friday to Sunday over the summer, so you can explore its historic rooms and learn about its cultural and historical significance. The Stone House also hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
Glasslåven Art Center & Studio
Right across the courtyard from Granavolden, in a classic red barn from the 1880s, you’ll find Glasslåven. This creative hub showcases contemporary art and crafts with three exhibitions each year. The exhibition program celebrates distinguished and promising talent, a broad range of art forms, and a diverse roster of artists, with a good spread of age, gender and ethnicities. The Loft, with its 7m-high space, hosts exhibitions, performances, and cultural events while the Stall is home to a gallery and a shop selling art, design, and crafts.
Telthuset
The Tent House (Telthuset) is a military storage depot from the mid-18th century and has strong historical ties to Norway’s military past. In 1958, the building was moved to Hadeland Folk Museum for preservation and was eventually relocated to its original site in 2018. Kistefos
Located in Jevnaker, Kistefos is a unique art and cultural center known for its impressive sculpture park featuring works by both Norwegian and international artists. The museum is part of an architectural marvel, The Twist, which functions as a bridge as well as a gallery. Kistefos also houses a museum that tells the story of the old wood pulp mill that once stood here. Visitors can explore the park, join guided tours, and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Grindaker Weaving
A working mill specializing in traditional Norwegian weaving, Grindaker Weaving (Grinaker Vev) is known for its high-quality textiles that are made with great care and precision. Learn about the art of weaving as weavers demonstrate some of their techniques and experience an important part of Norway’s cultural heritage. You can also take a course or workshop and support the local weavers by buying handmade textiles to bring home.
The Standing Stones at Bilden
Visit this fascinating archaeological site at Bilden where the Standing Stones form an impressive prehistoric stone circle. Consists of several large stones arranged in a circle, it is believed to date back to the Bronze Age and was most likely a burial site. The stones are an important cultural monument, offering insights into the region’s early settlements.
Hemlaga på Næs
Your trip is not complete without a visit to Hemlaga på Næs. a cozy farm shop offering quality homemade products, including baked goods, jams, juices, and handmade gifts. Lokstallen
Lokstallen is a historic building originally used to house locomotives. Today, it is one of Hadeland’s most popular restaurants, serving honest food in generous portions. Lokstallen challenges old food traditions while creating new ones. Known for its unique architecture and atmosphere, it is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors

Located in Tingelstad, Hadeland Folk Museum is one of Norway’s oldest open-air museums. Founded in 1913, the museum boasts an extensive collection of buildings and artifacts that depict life in Hadeland through the ages. Hadeland Glassverk
Founded in 1762, Hadeland Glassverk is one of Norway’s oldest industrial enterprises, and is renowned for its high-quality glassware and crystal, including vases, lighting and decorative glassware. Visitors can watch glassblowers in action, join a glassblowing workshop, and buy original glassware pieces in the factory outlet. Learn about the history and development of glass and crystal production in Norway spanning over 260 years at the Skattkammerat Museum. It’s an excellent place to experience traditional Norwegian craftsmanship and pick up some unique souvenirs.
